If All Those Now Living

If all those now living
Rejoiced in thanksgiving
For merely existing
Oh would were that so

But some say a god made us
To control and afraid us
To them we say rightly
“We don’t believe that’s so.”

For to see and to wonder
Without going under
Is to see the world’s beauty
Without a god,
If you dare.

So if they accuse you
Rebuke or abuse you
Just say to them kindly,
“I don’t know and don’t care!”
