While I agree with the article’s attitude that it is OK for an agnostic to celebrate on the 25th of December, I feel that the wording was wrong.

An agnostic cannot celebrate Christmas, as that is a Christian holiday. They can celebrate Yule, however, which, as you pointed out, has a longer history than Christmas.

Another thing you mentioned was “Let Santa visit your kids.” As I’m sure you’re aware, Santa is a representation of St. Nicholas of Myra, a Christian Bishop.

I have nothing against agnostics having a rotund jolly fellow in a red suit hand out presents, but calling him “Santa”, and then claiming you’re not celebrating a Christian holiday is hypocritical.
