Responding to a question about climate change and his stance that the science was “unsettled” and the fact that some 98% of scientists had come to a consensus that it was occurring, Governor Rick Perry of Texas responded:

“Galileo got outvoted for a spell.”

Perhaps not the best analogy. After all, Galileo was a scientist, and the guy that outvoted him was Pope Paul V, both a political and religious figure. But not a scientist.

Galileo was “outvoted” by someone who did not know what the hell he was talking about. Like so many politicians! And religious leaders.
