A California Judge ruled on 14 March 2005 that limiting marriage to a man and a woman violates the state’s constitution.

Judge Richard Kramer of the San Francisco County Superior Court wrote in his ruling,

It appears that no rational purpose exists for limiting marriage in this state to opposite sex partners… Simply put, same-sex marriage cannot be prohibited solely because California has always done so before.

No doubt this will be appealed, but if upheld, same-sex marriage will become legal in California.
