In Meditation 196: The Remainder Bin, I wrote about several books I had picked up cheaply. But for every discounted book I purchase, there are hundreds that regardless of price, I am just not interested in.

In my latest trolls through the remaindered books at several bookstores, here are some of the books that I chose not to squander my scarce funds on.

  • Do Cats Have ESP? with special cat horoscopes – Jeane Dixon
(I laughed out loud when I saw this book, then I mentally contacted my cat at home – and she advised me not to buy it.)
  • Bible Prophecy: What You Need To Know – Tim Lahaye
(Hasn’t this guy made enough money already on this Rapture nonsense?)
  • Healing Dreams: Exploring the Dreams That Can Transform Your Life –
    Mark Ian Barasach
(I dreamt that if I did not buy this book, I would transform my life by saving $6.99 which I could spend on something worthwhile.)
  • Past Lives, Future Healing: A Psychic Reveals the Secrets to Good Health and Great Relationships – Sylvia Browne
    (Palpable nonsense)
  • The Living Christ: Jesus at Work in Today’s World – Harold Fickett
(One of our members in Arizona says Jesus mows his lawn – this must be that Jesus’s biography)
  • The Oracle of Kabbalah: Mystical Teachings of the Hebrew Letters –
    Richard Seidman
    (More palpable nonsense)
  • Sacred Practices for Conscious Living – Nancy J. Napier
    (Even more palpable nonsense)
  • Words of Inspiration – John Paul II
    (Perhaps inspiring for Catholics…)
  • My Journey: From an Iowa Farm to a Cathedral of Dreams –
    Robert H. Schuller
(I find Schuller to be perhaps the least objectionable of the major televangelists, but still, I’m not interested.)
  • Dream Power – Cynthia Richmond
    (And still more palpable nonsense)
  • Intended for Pleasure: Sex Technique and Sexual Fulfillment in Christian Marriages – Ed Wheat
(Another cause of laughing out loud in the bookstore. I wonder what those Christians who think sex is intended only for procreation think of this one?)
  • The Wisdom of the Enneagram: The Complete Guide to Psychological and Spiritual Growth for the Nine Personality Types – Don Richard Riso (Looking up enneagrams on the web, I found that: “The Enneagram is a rich and practical study of personal growth based on ancient teachings of mysterious origins. Today, this study has a modern overlay of psychological typing rooted in these ancient teachings.” In other words – it is all bull crap.)

Perhaps my rejection of these books indicates a closed mind, but I prefer to think of it as differentiating between trash and treasure. But if anyone feels I should read one of these books, then you are invited to purchase the book and send it to me together with a reviewer’s fee of $25.00.
