It’s difficult for those of us in the West to understand the outrage felt in the Muslim world, because our idea of “free speech” is sacred. Non-Western people have a much stronger concept of shared responsibility for what institutions in their society. Thus, it is perfectly natural that they expect governments to be (partly)responsible for what press organizations do.
