Conversations with God?

In the discussion of talking or hearing from God, well I wonder if it has ever been recorded in history that one has ever had a conversation with Him. We read that He has told people what to do, but very it seems unrealistic to me, like a story or fable.
Remember God has really never appeared. He always sends a substitute, so I doubt if you hear or talk to Him. Remember, the historians recorded centuries ago. Nothing has been reported in this modern revolution of Man.
